Where the products overlap
Both products can interrupt browser requests associated with tracking or advertising. That overlap does not make them interchangeable, and a raw blocked-request count would not explain the full product experience.
Neither should be treated as proof of total anonymity, a replacement for every security tool, or a guarantee that a website will show a different price.
Where uBlock Origin is broader
The official uBlock Origin project describes itself as a free, open-source, wide-spectrum content blocker. It uses filter lists to block ads, trackers, popups, malicious sites, and other page content, and it supports extensive rule configuration.
That broader content-blocking job means uBlock Origin may block ads more broadly than Cloak and may also block page elements more broadly. Its full feature set and distribution vary by browser; the project maintains separate guidance for uBlock Origin and the Manifest V3-based uBlock Origin Lite.
Where Cloak is different
Cloak is a paid desktop Chrome extension. It focuses on retailer-aware URL tracking cleanup, selected tracker and ad-tech requests, readable browser tracking-state cleanup, selected browser-recognition reduction, GPC and DNT preference signals, and human-readable warnings for visible checkout pressure.
Its receipt distinguishes trackers from ads and explains which URL tags, cookies, or storage clues were changed. This-window, monthly, and all-time counters use the same event definitions with different reset scopes.
Cloak does not claim broad ad removal. Selected ad-tech blocking may result in fewer visible ads on some sites, but that is not a universal guarantee.
How to choose
Choose based on the job, not a winner label. Someone prioritizing broad content and ad blocking may prefer uBlock Origin or its current browser-compatible option. Someone wanting Cloak's selected interventions, URL cleanup, recognition-reduction measures, and local receipts may prefer Cloak.
Check the official uBlock project for current browser availability before installing. For Cloak, review the live Download page for current pricing, desktop Chrome support, activation, and refund terms.
